Tampa Bay's Family Nudist Resorts

Within the Tampa Bay area there are four nudist resorts and a gated upscale nudist community. I’m talking resorts here not nudist camps or nudist colonies. These are resorts. They have swimming pools and tennis courts. Accommodations include lakeside cottages, condos, hotel rooms and RV spaces. There are organized activities including dances.

In late March 2003, my wife and I visited these four resorts, then visited Cypress Cove Family Nudist Resort and Spa near Disneyworld. In this report to you, I’ll tell you about the resorts. Each one has a different flavor and appeal. The Lake Como Family Nudist Resort and Caliente Nudist Resort are perfect for noting contrasts and similarities. Lake Como is the oldest established in 1947 and Caliente is the newest.

Lake Como

On a tour of the resort we learn that it was founded in 1947. There are 200 acres and the 35 acre lake by our cottage. 165 people make Lake Como their home. 75 RV’s can use Lake Como as their winter home. Around the grounds are 26 cabins and motel type units.

Caliente Resort is just a few miles north of Lake Como. Caliente represents the future of nude recreation and nude communities. Here you can stay in a 3 star accommodation, or buy a house.

There are two other nudist resorts in the Tampa Bay area. One is Paradise Lakes and the other is the Gulf Coast Resort.

Paradise Lakes is adjacent to Lake Como Family Nudist Resort and yet totally different. For starters, Paradise Lakes is clothing optional. That means that if you’re not sure you want the nude recreation experience, you can choose to wear clothes or a bathing suit while visiting the resort. We got the impression that it was more adult oriented.

The Gulf Coast Nudist Resort is about 40 miles north of the Tampa Airport and only several miles from Hudson Beach. Though offering several cottages for overnight use, the Gulf Coast Resort is primarily an RV resort. The atmosphere here is rustic and friendly. During our visit we have a beer with six members of the resort who have gathered near the Tiki Bar. All of them have been coming here for years. Several spend the winter here. They enjoy the swimming pool, hot tub, tennis courts and volleyball. But most of all they like the friendly and neighborly atmosphere.

The Island Group doesn't quite fit in with our definition of a resort. It's a day use club for members only. However, non-members may visit on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. You'll find it just north of Paradise Lakes off Dupree Drive. "The Island" is a man-made 3 acre island surrounded by a private canal enclosed by tall moss-covered Cypress Trees, Maples, Pines and other abundant plants making "The Island" a natural retreat.

Cypress Cove Family Nudist Resort and Spa
We fell in love with this resort. The grounds are fabulously tropical with a beautiful lake as a centerpiece. You can choose from excellent resort accommodations, or RV camping.  Disneyworld is just minutes away.
